A escolha do nome Portukale.com
O nome Portukale.com foi escolhido após alguma investigação, o nome que queríamos dar era um nome que as pessoas associassem desde logo a Portugal. De ínicio pensamos em Portugal online, Portugal store, Portugal shop, mas alguns dos nomes já existiam e os que restavam não nos agradaram. Depois pensamos em Fado, Saudade, Obrigado, etc. Mas ainda não era exactamente o que queríamos... pois tería quer ser um nome internacional.
E depois encontramos Portucale (Wikipedia - Definição - Portucale designa o nome pelo qual foi conhecido um dos reinos Suevos na zona ocidental da Península Ibérica. Deriva do latim "Portus", que significa "porto" (marítimo) e "Cale" ou "Gale", antigo nome da Vila Nova de Gaia.) e gostámos.
De seguida soubemos que esse nome tinha um inconveniente porque estava associado a um escândalo "Portucale", relacionado com a autorização de abate de 2600 sobreiros pelo governo, para a construção de um empreendimento de luxo com campo de golfe. Para nos diferenciarmos escolhemos Portukale.com, com k.
O k é também uma referência actual da escrita sms e claramente das gerações mais jovens.
Com a diferença de cor no lettering conseguimos Portukal e.com, sendo e.com a sigla de e-commerce que é de facto a nossa loja-online.

Why the name Portukale.com
Portukale.com - The name was chosen after some investigation, we wanted to give a name that people immediately associate with Portugal. First we thought in Portugal online store, Portugal store, Portugal shop, … but some of the names were already being used and the one´s available we did not like. Then we thought in Fado, Saudade, Obrigado, etc. But that was not what we wanted ... because we wanted an international name.
And then we found Portucale (Wikipedia - Definition - Portucale designates the name by which was known of the kingdoms of a population “Suevos” in the western of the Iberian Peninsula. Derives from the Latin "Portus" which means "port" (sea) and "Cale" or "Gale ", ancient name of Vila Nova de Gaia.) and we liked it.
Then we soon found that this name was associated with the scandal “Portucale”, related to authorization for the cut off 2600 oak trees by the government, to build a luxury resort with golf course.
So we´ve decided to differentiate by adding a k – Portukale.com. The k was also a reference to sms writing and to the young generations. With the different colours in the lettering we were able to write Portukal e.com, e.com meaning e-commerce that is the business of our on-line store.
We are not sorry for choosing the name, although it was difficult to clearly distinguish our online store by the name chosen.

Uma resposta necessária mas provisória porque "toda a pessoa tem direito a um nível de vida suficiente que lhe assegure e à sua família a saúde e o bem-estar, principalmente quanto à alimentação, ao vestuário, ao alojamento, à assistência médica e ainda aos serviços sociais necessários" (Excerto do artigo 25º da Declaração Universal dos Direitos do Homem).

BANCOS ALIMENTARES CONTRA A FOME ANGARIAM 2.498 TONELADAS DE ALIMENTOS NA CAMPANHA DO ÚLTIMO FIM DE SEMANA

Os Bancos Alimentares Contra a Fome recolheram no passado fim-de-semana um total de 2.498 toneladas de géneros alimentares na campanha realizada em 1323 superfícies comerciais das zonas de Abrantes, Algarve, Aveiro, Braga, Coimbra, Cova da Beira, Évora e Beja, Leiria-Fátima, Lisboa, Oeste, Portalegre, Porto, Santarém, Setúbal, S. Miguel, Viana do Castelo e Viseu.

A quantidade agora recolhida compara com 1.908 toneladas recolhidas em Novembro de 2008, ou seja, um acréscimo de 30,9%.

A campanha, cujo lema foi "Dê a melhor parte de si ao Banco Alimentar: a sua solidariedade" suscitou uma enorme adesão do público e dos voluntários que quiseram colaborar. As campanhas são extraordinárias cadeias de solidariedade onde cada elo - pessoas que colocam os seus donativos nos sacos do Banco Alimentar, voluntários que dão o seu tempo e trabalho e empresas que garantem seguros, transportes, refeições, segurança, limpeza - é indispensável e igualmente importante.

Numa altura em que a união de esforços é mais do que nunca necessária e em que um pequeno gesto de cada um faz mais sentido, os resultados obtidos patenteiam uma extraordinária adesão a esta acção, que decorre duas vezes por ano desde 1992. Mesmo em clima de profunda crise económica, os portugueses voltaram a fazer prova da sua tradicional solidariedade, continuamente patenteada desde que o Banco Alimentar Contra a Fome iniciou actividade, e mostraram que não estão alheios às necessidades que afectam tantas pessoas, querendo contribuir para as minorar, partilhando alimentos.

Os géneros alimentares recolhidos serão distribuídos a partir da próxima semana a mais de 1.650 Instituições de Solidariedade Social que os entregam a cerca de 267 mil pessoas com carências alimentares comprovadas, sob a forma de cabazes ou de refeições confeccionadas.

FOOD BANK AGAINST HUNGER GATHERED 2498 TONS OF FOOD DURING THE LAST WEEKEND

The Food Bank Against Hunger gathered last weekend a total of 2498 tons of food at the campaign in 1323 supermarkets on the areas of Abrantes, Algarve, Aveiro, Braga, Coimbra, Cova da Beira, Évora and Beja, Leiria-Fatima, Lisbon, Oeste, Portalegre, Porto, Santarem, Setubal, S. Miguel Viana do Castelo and Viseu.

The amount collected now compares with 1908 tons collected in November 2008, i.e. an increase of 30.9%.

The campaign, whose signature was "Give the best part of yourself to the Food Bank: your Solidarity" raised a lot of participation and volunteers who wanted to serve. Campaigns are an extraordinary solidarity chain where each link - people who put their donations in the bags of the Food Bank, volunteers who give their time and labor and businesses that gives insurance, safe transport, meals, security, cleaning – it’s essential and equally important.

At a time when the union's efforts are more necessary than ever and that a small gesture of each one makes the most sense, the results obtained patent an extraordinary commitment to this action, which takes place twice a year since 1992. Even in an atmosphere of deep economic crisis, the Portuguese once again demonstrate its traditional solidarity, patented continuously since the Food Bank Against Hunger started its activity, and showed that they don’t look back on so many people that need help and wanted to contribute sharing food.

The food collected will be distributed starting next week to more than 1,650 institutions of social solidarity that deliver it to about 267 thousand of people with proven lack of food in the form of baskets or meals prepared.

Voluntários em acção para alimentar quem precisa.

27 mil voluntários disponibilizaram algum do seu tempo durante o fim-de-semana para participar na campanha de recolha: tarefas como a recolha nos estabelecimentos comerciais, o transporte, pesagem e separação dos produtos, foram integralmente asseguradas por voluntários, confirmando assim a entusiástica mobilização colectiva ao projecto do Banco Alimentar Contra a Fome.

Trata-se da maior acção de voluntariado organizada em Portugal, mostrando que a acção conjunta de todos os agentes de solidariedade gera resultados muito superiores aos que seriam obtidos se cada um deles resolvesse agir de forma isolada.

Volunteers in action for those who need food

27 thousand volunteers have provided some of their time during the weekend to participate in the recall campaign: jobs like the collection of food on shops, transport, weighing and separation products, were fully carried out by volunteers, thereby confirming the enthusiastic mobilization on collective project of the Food Bank Against Hunger.

This is the largest organized volunteer action in Portugal, showing that the joint action of all solidarity agents produces much higher results than the one that would be obtained if each one resolved to act isolated.

The partners of Portukale.com made, personally, part of this inspiring project and unfortunately very necessary being part of the 27 thousand volunteers. There they are in action.

As 7 maravilhas dePortugal/ The Seven Wonders of Portugal

A escolha das Sete Maravilhas de Portugal foi uma iniciativa apoiada pelo Ministério da Cultura de Portugal e organizada pelo consórcio composto por Y&R Brands S.A. e Realizar S.A. que visou eleger os sete monumentos mais relevantes do património português.
A escolha foi baseada em 793 monumentos nacionais classificados pelo IPPAR, à qual foi feita uma primeira selecção, realizada por peritos e da qual resultou uma lista de setenta e sete monumentos. Seguidamente foi feita uma nova escolha, realizada por um Conselho de Notáveis composto por personalidades de diversos quadrantes de onde saíram os vinte e um monumentos finalistas.

A partir de 7 de Dezembro de 2006 e durante sete meses, foi disponibilizada, via internet, telefone e sms, entre outros meios, a votação que viria a eleger os sete monumentos preferidos dos portugueses.

No dia 7 de Julho de 2007 foi feita a divulgação da Declaração Universal das novas sete maravilhas do mundo, tendo como palco o estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica em Lisboa onde foram apresentadas também as Sete Maravilhas de Portugal.

The choice of the Seven Wonders of Portugal was an initiative supported by the Ministry of Culture of Portugal and organized by a consortium composed of Y & R Brands, SA and Realizar, SA that aimed to elect the seven most important Portuguese monuments . The choice was based on 793 national monuments classified by IPPAR, a first selection was made by experts that resulted in a list of seventy-seven monuments. Then it was made a new choice by an Eminent Personalities Council from various quarters resulting on the twenty-one finalist monuments.

As of December 7, 2006 and for seven months, it was available via the Internet, telephone and SMS, among other means, the vote to elect the favorite seven monuments of the Portuguese.

On July 7, 2007 it was made the announcement of the Universal Declaration of the new seven wonders of the world, at the stadium of SL Benfica in Lisbon where there were also presented the Seven Wonders of Portugal.
